De-escalation training for retail staff.
Shop floor staff face abuse, threats and theft every day, often alone and with no warning. Double Take is building retail scenarios so store teams can practise those conversations on the shop floor, by voice, before they happen for real.
What store teams face
Conflict comes at the till, with no time to think.
An age check refused, a refund declined, a price that does not match the shelf. Each one can turn in seconds, in front of a queue, and the colleague on the till has to handle it alone.
Most store staff are not trained for confrontation.
Retail colleagues are hired to serve customers, not to manage aggression. Many get little practice in handling confrontation, so they meet their first real one unprepared.
Shop theft puts staff in harm’s way.
When a colleague challenges someone leaving with goods, the conversation can escalate fast. Knowing when to speak, what to say and when to step back keeps people safe.
Staff safety is now a board-level duty.
The Crime and Policing Act 2026 created a standalone offence of assaulting a retail worker. Boards now ask what their stores do to prepare and protect staff.
UK retail staff faced about 1,600 incidents of violence or abuse every day. 118 a day were physical, and 36 involved a weapon.

How Double Take will help retail teams
Practice on the shop floor
The same app places a life-size character in the store, at the till or by the door. Colleagues practise where real conflict happens, on a tablet the store already has.
Characters that push back
Each character has a motive, hidden facts and a set list of what makes them angrier or calmer. Colleagues learn what works by voice, not by ticking a box.
Built for short, frequent sessions
Sessions are designed to take less than ten minutes, so colleagues can practise before opening or in a quiet hour without leaving the store.
Safety first
A stop control is always on screen and every session ends with a wellbeing check. Characters have hard content limits, with no slurs, sexual content or threats of violence.
Retail scenarios are in development
Double Take’s beta scenarios are set at a building reception today. Retail scenarios are next. Register now and tell us the situations your stores face most: your answers shape what we build first.
Questions retail teams ask
Is Double Take available for retail teams now?
Not yet. Double Take’s retail scenarios are in development. The current beta has three scenarios set at a building reception. Register interest and we will email you when retail places open.
Which retail situations will Double Take cover?
Double Take is choosing its first retail scenarios now, with input from teams on the launch list. Register and tell us the situations your stores face most often.
Do stores need VR headsets for Double Take?
No. Double Take runs on iPad and Android tablets that support AR, with a flat-screen mode when there is no space. There is nothing to wear, clean or store.
Does Double Take replace conflict training for retail staff?
Double Take is practice, not a qualification. It gives retail colleagues repeat, realistic practice of the conflict skills that their existing training teaches.
